Youth Climate Adaptation Forum on Locally Led Adaptation

Taking place on International Youth Day, the Youth Adaptation Forum on Locally Led Adaptation seeks to bring attention to the young people who are designing and implementing adaptation solutions on the frontline of the climate crisis. The Youth Adaptation Forum on Locally Led Adaptation will share stories of resilience and best practices for climate adaptation action through their work.

Informing, Connecting and Inspiring Locally Led Adaptation
The Global Center on Adaptation created the Global Hub on Locally Led Adaptation to connect and empower local communities and governments. The platform showcases best practices examples of locally led adaptation with the aim to inform, connect and inspire those on the frontline of climate change impacts.

The Global Hub aims to empower local governments and communities through the provision of additional resources and capacity; and to scale up LLA best practices by influencing adaptation and development investments.
 
Young People Driving Adaptation Agenda
The GCA Youth Leadership and Education program aims to make young people central to driving the adaptation agenda and implementation worldwide. The program’s mission is to mobilize the next generation of adaptation leaders around the world by providing capacity-building for young people and creating adaptation jobs to make their communities more climate resilient.

In 2024, GCA will organize six Youth Adaptation Forums, with a special focus on African good practices, based upon adaptation areas prioritized by young people; Young Women Leadership for Adaptation, Water, Climate-resilient Agriculture, Nature-based Solutions, Youth Entrepreneurship, Adaptation Jobs, and Finance and Locally Led Adaptation.  
  
The Youth Adaptation Forums are bringing together young people, governments, civil society, practitioners, international organizations, and decision-makers to mobilize and highlight adaptation solutions led by young people in Africa.
 
The Youth Adaptation Forums will culminate in a global Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day, where young people around the world will be encouraged to take adaptation action simultaneously.

Key Objectives:
The Youth Adaptation Forum on Locally Led Adaptation will:

• Showcase locally led adaptation initiatives designed and implemented by young people.
• Inspire young people to initiate or support locally led adaptation.
• Spotlight young people’s good practices in youth- and locally-led adaptation.

• What obstacles are in place which prevent young people from engaging with or initiating locally led adaptation?
• How can young people be supported to engage with locally led adaptation?
• Are there any best practices on locally led adaptation which can be learnt from?
